Cheap theatre isn’t a pipedream. It’s here and it’s (mostly) everywhere.

Under 30? 40? Arts worker? You are the most desired audience in theatre so use your power for good.

The National Ballet’s Dancebreak program  – 16-29? Register for Dancebreak and get $30 tickets online on the day of the show. Tickets are subject to availability and are allocated on a best available basis.

The Canadian Opera Company’s “Opera for a New Age” program – Approximately 150 seats are reserved in sections 3D/4C/5B for Opera for a New Age ticket buyers and student groups for each mainstage performance.

Soulpepper’s StagePlay program – 21-30? Become a member of StagePlay  and get $22 tickets on the day of the show, plus $22 advance ticket sales for Monday night performances. Tickets subject to availability.

Canadian Stage’s C-stage program – Join C-Stage and get tickets to select performances for $12.50 each! Bring another under-30 friend and get another ticket for the same price.

Canadian Stage’s “Visionaries” program – This is for those UNDER 40, but it’s a unique program that offers a theatre subscription to most of the Canadian Stage season at a discounted rate. Other theatre companies should take note.

Tarragon Theatre – This is for those 35 and under and/or Artists. Choose a subscription from 6 plays in the season at a discounted rate.

360 Screenings – $60 may seem steep but the price includes theatre, a film and hors ‘doeurves. $40 for arts workers and students. For added fun, the location is kept secret until 24 hours before.


Rush tickets are the new black! See below for info on various theatre companies rush ticket initatives.

Most theatre companies offer rush ticket initiatives. They’re outlined on Theatre Isn’t Dead’s home page but here are more detailsThe National Ballet – Rush tickets are available in person at the Four Seasons Centre at 11am for every performance on every level. Cash only. Subject to availability.

The Canadian Opera Company – COC rush tickets are available in person at the Four Seasons Centre at 11 a.m. on the day of a performance, are subject to availability and are limited to two (2) per person.
When available, rush tickets are offered in the 3D/4C/5B rings at $22 each. Any tickets remaining in other areas of the auditorium may be purchased for half their original price.

Soulpepper Theatre Company –  Rush tickets are available in person at the Young Centre box office 30 minute prior to curtail. You CAN arrive an hour before each show and get a number to reserve a spot in line (I recommend). Tickets subject to availability. Cash only.
Youth Rush! (21 and under) – $5 tickets! FIVE DOLLARS!

Canadian Stage – Available for any performance at 50% off the regular ticket price. Subject to availability and must be purchased in person at the box office one hour prior to show time. They also offer a limited number of Pay-What-You-Can tix for Monday night shows.

Tarragon Theatre – Rush tickets are available for $12 at 6pm at the box office for Friday night performances and for Sunday matinee performances at 1pm. Not available during previews.

Factory Theatre – 10 tickets per performance on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday nights. Waiting list usually in effect.
Sunday Matinee performances are all Pay-What-You-Can.

Theatre Passe Muraille  – Pay-What-You-Can tix are available for their Saturday Matinee performances but this is subject to change for some shows.
