Although I won’t be able to see all shows at the Next Stage Theatre Festival, I still feel confident in labelling All Our Yesterdays as a highlight in the 12 day fest. It’s the full package. The tight script brings the Boko Haram kidnapping in Chibok, Nigeria into our laps, and the stellar performances by Chiamaka Umeh and Amanda Weise ensure we pay attention to it. Both girls make their difficult performances look easy. The set, costumes and direction all take on a ‘simple yet clever’ theme which strengthens the storytelling and ensures that, for at least 60 minutes, we pay rapt attention to the still-captive girls. Writer/Director Chloé Hung is one to watch.
